If you have Windows Home: this error occurs when you try to activate a different edition of Windows other than Home. For the installed Windows Home version, the Home key is the correct one to use. In this case, you should perform a clean installation of the proper Windows version. More information is available on Microsoft’s official website.

If you have Windows Pro: this error indicates that your key is meant for a different version than the one currently installed on your device. For Windows Pro, you need a Pro key; a Home key will not work. As mentioned above, a clean installation of the correct Windows version is required.

Note: some Windows products cannot be used to upgrade from one version to another.
